NPA: What We Do : Where We've Been : Who We Are
NPA In a Nutshell
Great art should not be undiscovered. NPA helps art find its way
out of basements and studios and onto stages, gallery walls, and out to
the public. Artists should create art and where possible that art
should find its audience.
NPA Mission Statment
"Northwest Programs for the Arts (NPA) connects artists with audiences,
bringing art out into the public where it can be appreciated. NPA
builds Northwest arts culture by helping artists focus time on actually
creating art."
Why We Do What We Do
In the U.S., we often encourage people to explore arts when they're young.
Should they find purpose in their art as a career, however, we are
not always so supportive. Grants for art and artists actually trying
to make a living at their art, for career assistance, for gaining attention,
for professional education, are difficult to find. Northwest Programs
for the Arts (NPA) steps in to promote art and artists and encourage the
connection between artists and their audiences. NPA currently operates
these programs:
| NPA's Current
Programs |
| Northwest Music Fund |
| The Northwest Music Fund (NMF) supports developing
musical artists by assistance with early recordings, showcasing, touring,
and professional music education through both grants and revolving
loans. NMF provides a forum to obtain career advice and is working
to obtain tour vans available on a subsidized, checkout basis to grantees.
NMF encourages artists to be proactive in their careers by requiring
applicants to establish career plans. Artists are asked to re-seed
and expand the fund when it becomes possible. Details on the
NMF program can be found at the NMF page. |

| SAVE PUBLIC ART! and Support
Public Art |
| Given the strong influence public art has on our
daily lives and the way it can boost vitality of an area, NPA encourages
the preservation of current public artworks and creation of new ones.
SAVE PUBLIC ART! works with art pieces or installations needing
care, repair, or upgrade. Support Public Art commissions new
art works in partnership with the communities where it is installed. |

| Seattle Music Fest at
Alki Beach |
| Showcases some of the best, emerging Northwest
artists with headliners and guests from outside the region. Provides
a chance for the community to see many new artists in one weekend.
For bands, it provides a chance for the newer regional artists
to be the main attraction on a large stage and gives them the exposure
they deserve. |
